


There are various ways to encrypt the container. Veracrypt works by creating a container that looks like a file, that has a fixed size you determine, which is encrypted. Again, I keep only my Financial folder and some personal data on those. I also have a couple of Appricorn self-encrypted USB thumb drives that are formatted as Fat32 (each one has a number pad on it and I have to punch in a long, numerical character string on it to access the data). The Veracrypt container gets copied over to the backup SSDs with no problems when I'm using FreeFileSync to update my backups. My backup SSDs are formatted ext4 or NTFS depending on which computer they are backing up. I only encrypt my financial data and some personal data on my computers using a 3.2 GB Veracrypt container since the other files are harmless if they fall into someone else's hands.
